Public bug reported:

Running Gutsy, I have transitioned to a Dell XPS M1330. Installing VLC,
ubuntu-restricted-extras, and libdvdcss2, DVDs do not playback as they
did on my previous laptop. A quick web search reveals that there is some
sort of DMA problem with the XPS M1330. Running hdparm returns the
following:

$ sudo hdparm /dev/scd0

/dev/scd0:
 IO_support    =  0 (default 16-bit)
 readonly      =  0 (off)
 readahead     = 256 (on)
 HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Configuring /etc/hdparm.conf to enable DMA also has no effect. For
testing, I also tried running dvdbackup on the disk and received errors
regarding being unable to crack the css.

If there's anything else you might need to diagnose this problem, please
let me know.
