Public bug reported: The installer from my Xubuntu 24.04 LTS ISO installation disk, obtained from http://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/ubuntu- dvd/xubuntu/releases/22.04/release/xubuntu-22.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso did not allow me to make an installation with separate partitions for
* the operating system, i.e. / * user data, i.e. the /home partition. Once I created additional partitions on the disk inside of /snap/ubuntu- desktop-bootstrap/171/bin/ubuntu-bootstrap, the key to proceed greyed out. I could only install Xubnutu with everything in a single partition. I had to create the partition for /home outside of the installation procedure, copy the directory contents of /home from the initially created single partition to the newly created partition and then I had to edit /etc/fstab accordingly. That's very awkward. It's too difficult for beginners. Being able to separate the operating system and the user's data (i.e. put /home into a separate partition) should be easy. This was possible with previous versions of Xubuntu and it should become possible again! (Separate partitions for the operating system and for the user data split the free space into two parts and are therefore not as effective when space on the hard disk is limited, but they make data backup strategies considerably easier.) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2081884 Title: Xubuntu 24.04 LTS (2024-04-25) ISO can't install with seoparate home partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/2081884/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
