This issue is still a problem on Ubuntu 24.04.1 and Dropbox daemon
v208.4.5824.

The lock-unlock workaround still works. A comment by user aristocles on the
Dropbox forums explains how to automatically apply the workaround on login.

Make a startup script that restarts the app indicator.
#!/bin/sh
sleep 5
/usr/bin/gnome-extensions disable ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com
