Thanks for the bug report. As far as I can tell, the system is trying to
use Xorg by default because Nvidia is the primary GPU(?), but the Nvidia
Xorg driver is not properly installed (according to the Xorg log it's
not present).

Please try using the 'Additional Drivers' app to reinstall an Nvidia
driver.

Also if you remove the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter then you would also
have the option of selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' at the login screen.
