It seems on upgrades/downgrades (by apt install) auto state of a package
is kept even without --mark-auto, if there is a reverse dependency of
the package installed. But with same command, if the version happens to
be the same in the repository, the package is marked as manually
installed. So if I want to retain auto/manual states when installing by
a script I have to keep track of old states anyway or compare versions
before installing. So I think it would be good to have such an option
for apt install, that would not change package marked as auto to manual
in any case.
