I now disabled fwupd completely, want to see if the problem persists. ** Description changed:
I can't use Apport, it demands a github account and I don't have access to one right now. And, besides I don't know whether the problem package is firmware-updater or something else (possibly something that is missing). There is no easy way to view what firmware-updater downloaded and updated for my computer. This manifests as the computer running well, then firmware-updater downloads and installs something from the internet and suddenly the computer crashes or hangs several times per day. The problem here is that there is no easy and intuitive way to 1. See what exactly firmware-updater did to my computer. 2. Revert what it did to the previous "known good configuration". 3. Tell it "do not try to update now, I can't handle system crashes right now". - The page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash + The page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash does not + mention anything about firmware updates or how to view/revert them. + + My experience says that you should treat everything closed source as + suspicious and possible cause of problems, hence I see this lack of + transparency as a serious problem. DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: firmware-updater 0+git.22198be (but I am not sure if the bug is here or there is missing software) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2105474 Title: lack of transparency for firmware updates causes problems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2105474/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
