I have the same experience on an iMac-11,2 for both Ubuntu and Lubuntu (predictable for suspected kernel cause). "booting of the 25.04 upgrades fail. They boot to grub but beyond that you get a black screen with a steady cursor." I can boot the Ubuntu 24.04.X installer without issue.
