Public bug reported:
This wifi problem has been the biggest pain with Ubuntu so far. Its been quite a while that I have been living with this problem of nm-applet where the applet starts a re-scan just like that. Now all of a sudden the applet freezes and if I don't do anything for a long time I can't even open up new applications. I can just close the opened apps. I come across this thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/154549 When I do a reboot after the applet starts the re-scan then it works sometimes. But when I do a reboot after the applet FREEZES it wouldn't even restart. More often restart gets stuck at: * stopping GNOME display manager ... * stopping Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon avahi-daemon Failed to kill daemon: Timer Expired * stopping DHCP D-Bus daemon dhc [failed] ..... ..... * stopping samba daemon (may b different) [ok] * stopping wifi-radar daemon Nothing happens after this. When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL the same sequence repeats from GNOME display manager ... till the wifi-radar I don't really understand why the applet does a re-scan when a windows machine in the same room is doing just fine. I can't say for sure, but the problem seems to be due to the DHCP daemon [failed]. I have included my /var/log/syslog also. It really breaks my heart when I have to power down my machine using the power button :(( ......... - regmee ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wifi rescan problem (nm-applet) system won't restart https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/182392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
