So, does anyone have a fix for this problem yet? pepito seems to have
found something that works for him, but I'm not finding this "compiz-
start" thing anywhere. I myself am a relative newb to Linux, so any
step-by-step instructions would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry that I can't contribute anything further; all I can say is
that it takes a solid 30 seconds for the desktop to fully load after
login (with Compiz Fusion and AWN), and this is on a Dell Latitude D620
with 1 gigabyte of RAM and Intel Core 2 Duo processor @2.00 GHz. My
three-year-old Intel Celeron desktop loads Feisty's GNOME desktop in
exactly 18 seconds after login, with Compiz enabled.
