Under hardy (Alpha 3 + updates), things are different.
The printer is not detected correctly.
In system-config-printer (0.7.78+svn1799-0ubuntu1), The device URI is :
hp:/usb/DeskJet_895C?serial=ES9771C0R0FB
With this URI, nothing works : task status stays at "processing since..."
forever.
Even the HP toolbox doesn't work. I get the following error:
error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12):
hp:/usb/DeskJet_895C?serial=ES9771C0R0FB
warning: Device not found

If I change the device URI (by clicking on the "Change..." button) and select
the "HP DESKJET 895C USB #1" device, the device URI becomes :
usb://HP/DESKJET%20895C?serial=ES9771C0R0FB

And with that URI everything works ! And the printer is also "powered
on" automatically.

I am going to reboot under Gutsy and look at the device URI to see if it
is also an automatic detection problem.
