Please:
1. Check for crashes in /var/crash and if found then use 'ubuntu-bug' to
send them.
2. Next time the problem has happened, run:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
and attach the resulting text file here.
3. Try logging in using just the keyboard, because some people have
reported a race condition if the mouse or touchpad is used during login.
4. Try booting without the external monitor connected, in case that
makes a difference.
