I know what a liveCD is for, however
- what if you don't know you're running a liveCD (the sysadmin might have put
it in, you're a noob), or you just forgot, then a restart can throw away some
important data (docs on the desktop for example)
if (running liveCD) warning("something based on sentence above"); else
("system restart required");
would already be a very useful improvement
Or actually a warning when saving stuff in a place that would 'normally'
survive a restart is a better strategy.
And about it being for temporary use:
- Some people carry liveCDs with them to override the OS of machines that are
not their own
- The installer of the liveCD crashes on partitioning, which is why i have been
using the liveCD longer than i would have liked
