I just got mail from someone else who had the same problem and the same fix worked for them. But a while ago I heard from someone else who tried it and it did not help with the problem on their system. It seems there may be a few different problems that result in similar symptoms. There may be a good reason for the original patch--it may fix some other problem on a different system. This audio stuff is all a bit crazy. All I know is, the fix works for me, and at least some other people. I guess it really needs someone to look into this chipset in depth and understand what is actually going on, rather than just randomly patching things.
