Hi, I thought the case was clear but I'll add a detailed description of
the issue

=== Description ===
If I install Ubuntu enabling disk encryption I expect that, KNOWING THE
PASSPHRASE and in case of emergency, with a live system I'll be able to access
my files. Via Nautilus I should be able to see the computer disk and be able to
open it, entering my passphrase, and then access my files.

=== Environment ===
Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
Installed on my pc and on a usb flash drive to have a live system

=== Steps to reproduce ===

--- My computer ---
I have my Ubuntu installation, I installed 24.04 when it was released, and I
enabled disk encryption in installation wizard. So every time I turn on my
computer I have to enter the passphrase to unlock the disk and boot my system.

--- The "rescue" with a live system ---
Let's imagine I'm in a bad situation such as a messed up system, I tried to
boot my system with a live system from usb to open my drive, copy my files away
and reinstall the system. From the live system I'm able to see my volume so I
decide to click on it

--- What happened ---
I'm asked to enter my password (as I reported in a blog post here
https://www.marcosbox.com/2025/02/01/ubuntu-e-una-cifratura-troppo-efficace/ )
but I'm not able to enter via nautilus into the drive on my computer.

--- What I expect to happen ---
I expect that, after asking the passphrase, the live system is able to open an
encrypted drive since the live system and the installed one are the same system
at the same major version.

=== Other attempts and spare notes ===
In the blog post I tired different live distros to access my drive, the only
one that succeeded at the date of the post was Fedora 41 with KDE.

And I also simulated a couple of other tests with VirtualBox: can a Live distro
open a volume encrypted by the same distro?
I installed the system PopOS 24.04 with encrypted installation, PopOS live can
open it's own drive after asking the password, same for Linux Mint 22.3.

Actually I didn't perform tests with newer distros, I'll try to do it in
the next days and let you know. System to "rescue" will still be my
Ubuntu 24.04 installation.

=== Conclusion ===
I won't doubt that Nautilus is able to handle encryption but in this case
Nautilus is having issues in opening a disk encrypted by the same distro.
I don't know if the issue is on Nautilus or in the encryption algorythm, I just
need that the same distro on my usb drive can both install a system encrypted
for security policies and be able to run a live system that let me rescue my
data, knowing the passphrase of course.
