You can add something like Breaks: gnome-shell (<< 50~) Alternatively, I think this feature change also requires gdm 50.alpha. You could update the libgdm-dev version in the Build-Depends line [which will then magically update the Depends: libgdm1 version because libgdm1.symbols sets Build-Depends-Package]. (And then perhaps update the minimum gdm version upstream in gnome-initial-setup/meson.build )
