Given the Intel GPU is also failing to wake the laptop screen, it sounds
suspicious to blame the latest Nvidia driver.

Please use the 'Additional Drivers' app to switch back to Nouveau (thus
uninstalling the Nvidia 580 driver) and then reboot. Does the bug still
occur then?

Next please use the 'Additional Drivers' app to install the Nvidia 570
driver instead of 580. Does the bug still occur after that?
