Public bug reported:
Was having issues with some applications in Ubuntu 25.10 and was
researching some ways to check for broken applications and fix them.
Someone suggested aptitude. I used it and pressed "g" a few times to
auto check for applications and auto update auto remove them. Well after
it was done i pressed the "Meta" key and most of the applications Ubuntu
installed on the first run of the OS were gone. I thought, okay that is
odd. I then initiated a restart and the entire OS was gone. As in I
loaded into a black screen that appeared to be a console to enter text
as there was a cursor that would normally be blinking however was solid.
No text could be entered nothing could be done. There was no grub menu,
nothing. I restarted and got the exact same thing again. The only fix I
could find was loading into a live OS. I was able to access my files and
exported my important stuff to another disk. This is now the second time
in 2 weeks that my UBUNTU OS has been completely bricked and became un-
accessable. Look guys I'm sorry but I am done with Ubuntu. I have given
you so many chances however it is clearly not optimized here whatsoever.
You guys have not put together a stable operating system, whether on a
stable build or on a testing build. You go against your own principles
constantly and the design decisions you have made here make no sense to
me. I am not going to go on another angry rant but I wanted to let you
know that I am not going to be download Ubuntu again for some time.
Maybe in that time your organization can figure out how to pin down a
design philosophy, stick to it, and potentially provide the public with
a stable operating system. Good luck in your future endevours I will not
be back for a while. I am not your quality assurance tester. I just need
a stable OS that will not completely collapse once every week. Have fun
with it, adios.
