Thank you for reporting this issue with aptitude on Ubuntu 25.10. I
understand how frustrating it is when your system becomes unbootable
after using package management tools.
However, to help the team investigate whether this was caused by a bug
in aptitude or another factor (such as accidental removal of critical
packages), we need some technical evidence that isn't currently
available:
Please try running the following command and attach the output to this
bug report:
apport-collect 2143016 -p aptitude
This will automatically collect relevant system information about what
happened during the aptitude operation. If that doesn't work, you could
also manually check your apt history at /var/log/apt/history.log to see
which packages were removed.
Without this data, we cannot determine if this is an aptitude bug or
another issue. Once we have more information, I'll be able to take
appropriate action.
