It looks unlikely that the autopkgtests on s390x are directly caused by the update to python-cheroot. The autopkgtest regressions are taking place in the test_wait_publishes_periodically of the test_bus suite. The body of the test (including fixtures) has dependencies only on the standard library. Likely there is some sort of race condition which is now being hit due to changes in the code. I'll do a little more digging.
