Public bug reported: Looking at the history of libjpeg-turbo in Ubuntu it has a lot of custom uploads to Ubuntu for several years (see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libjpeg-turbo/+changelog). However, I am not able to spot any documentation explaining why the package is maintained differently in Ubuntu.
I am also not able to see any bug reports at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=no&src=libjpeg-turbo where Ubuntu maintainers would request Debian to take some patches or make the same build flag decisions as in Ubuntu. The latest changelog in Ubuntu summarizes the remaining differences: * Merge with Debian unstable. Remaining changes: - Drop epoch except for libturbojpeg0-dev (& libturbojpeg) since Debian's krita package has a versioned Build-Depends on it - Set -DWITH_JPEG8=1 and use existing Ubuntu package names - Override dh_makeshlibs to use the original libjpeg symbol version - Have libturbojpeg0-dev depend on libjpeg-turbo8-dev instead of conflict with it - Don't have libjpeg-turbo8-dev conflict with libjpeg8-dev - Don't build the transitional libjpeg-dev package from here for now; Ubuntu builds it from libjpeg8-empty This bug report is an ask to have it documented why the package seems to be permanently diverging from Debian wiht visible attempts to champion the Ubuntu improvements into Debian, and what packages that depend on libjpeg-turbo should do to accommodate the situation and build properly in both Debian and Ubuntu. ** Affects: libjpeg-turbo (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2144628 Title: Sync from Debian or document why package permanently has diverged in Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libjpeg-turbo/+bug/2144628/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
