Public bug reported:

Summary:
On ASUS Vivobook S 14 M3407HA, Ubuntu sometimes falsely reports that the
battery is in "pending-charge" state even though no charger is physically
connected. At around the same time, GNOME also plays the power
connection/disconnection notification sound.

Hardware:
ASUS Vivobook S 14 M3407HA
BIOS: M3407HA.304
Battery: BAT0
AC adapter: ADP0

Ubuntu versions affected:
- Ubuntu with kernel 6.17.0-19-generic
- Ubuntu last LTS (fresh install)

While running on battery power with no charger connected, the battery state
sometimes changes from "Discharging" to "Not charging" in
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status.
At around the same time, GNOME plays the power plug/unplug notification sound,
even though no charger is connected.
At that moment, /sys/class/power_supply/ADP0/online remains 0 and
/sys/class/power_supply/ADP0/uevent still shows POWER_SUPPLY_ONLINE=0.
However, upower -d changes the battery state to from "pending-charge" to
"pending-charge" and the daemon state to "on-battery: no".

Note about the sound:
The notification sound is not a perfectly reliable trigger, because it is not
always exactly synchronized with the BAT0 status transition.
However, it happens in the same failure scenario and seems to be caused by the
same false power-state change.

Expected result:
If ADP0 is offline and battery energy is decreasing, the system should remain
in "Discharging" / on-battery state and should not play a power
connection/disconnection sound.

Actual result:
The system falsely switches to "Not charging" / "pending-charge" and may play a
power connection/disconnection sound even though no AC adapter is connected.
