1) start from factory Ubuntu image. (wifi is intermittent) Dell xps-13 2) do partial upgrade with software updater. (wifi is OK, but webcam no longer works) 3) do the backport operation to try to get the webcam to wok. 4) wait a while & do an upgrade with the software updater (it wanted to go to kernel 6.17.0-1017) 5) upgrade fails & the system can not boot. 6) restore to factory image. 7) do partial upgrade & now everything seems to work fine. Currently at Kernel 6.17.0-1017 wifi works, webcam works.
