Public bug reported: System: - Laptop: ASUS ROG Strix G733CX_G733CX - BIOS/Firmware: G733CX.318 - Ubuntu: 25.10 - Kernel: 6.17.0-20-generic
Audio hardware detected: - HDA Intel PCH - Realtek ALC285 analog codec - HDA NVidia HDMI audio Problem: The internal laptop speakers sound very poor under Ubuntu: - very quiet - crackly/distorted - speech is hard to understand - with some low-level tests I only get noise from the speakers Important comparison: - On the same laptop, the internal speakers work normally under Windows. - This strongly suggests the speakers themselves are not defective. What I tested: 1. Verified PipeWire/WirePlumber routing to the internal analog output. 2. Tested different profiles and ALSA mixer settings. 3. Tested direct ALSA playback / speaker-test on the internal device. 4. Tested Windows -> reboot directly into Linux (warm reboot). No audible improvement. 5. Tested forcing legacy HDA / disabling SOF path with snd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver=1. No real improvement; in one test only noise came from the speakers. 6. Tested hdajackretask temporarily, but it did not fix the issue and was reverted. Observed result: - The issue persists across normal playback and low-level ALSA tests. - This does not look like a simple PipeWire routing issue. - It looks more like missing or incomplete Linux support for the internal speaker / amplifier / codec configuration on this ASUS model. ALSA info: http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=db3e4c1d8900c96bd1a5c4ca1ac2db2debf5298e Please investigate whether this model is missing a kernel quirk / codec fix / amplifier initialization for the internal speakers.
