Just to be sure if I understood you correctly on
"Whenever I -->had<-- a partition formatted as ext4, the installer crashed."
That means in cases there was already a disk, that was partitioned and
formatted as ext4 when you started the install (so a previous/existing
installation with an ext4 disk) when the installer crashed ?
(in this case it could be the 'probert' component ...)
