System experiences periodic full UI freezes every ~5–10 seconds after
long uptime.
Symptoms:
- Entire system freezes (mouse, keyboard, rendering)
- Audio continues playing (buffered)
- System recovers after a few seconds
Observed in dmesg:
- amdgpu: MODE1 reset
- amdgpu: GPU mode1 reset
- amdgpu: SMU driver if version not matched
Hardware:
- AMD GPU (Sienna Cichlid / RDNA2)
Kernel:
- 6.17.0-20-generic
Workaround:
- Booting with:
amdgpu.runpm=0 amdgpu.aspm=0
- Using kernel 6.8.0 resolves or mitigates the issue
Suspected cause:
- SMU firmware mismatch or regression in amdgpu power management
