Hello Thorsten,
last Friday and today and did several more tests, trying to narrow down this
issue.

Since we already have never ISO images (past beta, actually newer than March
30th) I also tried the latest, and with the image from April 3rd I am no longer
able to reproduce the crash with ext4 formatting disks on my environments.
(I still need to investigate all the changes between the two images, but I know
that an updated coreutils package got included - for example.).
So I could neither reproduce this anymore with my "workaround" environment
(using 26.04 installer with 25.10 image on z13) nor on the z15 / FCP/SCSI disk
with regular 26.04.

So please would you mind trying again, but this time with the ISO image from
here:
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-live/20260403/
especially:
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-live/20260403/resolute-live-server-s390x.iso

IF you should still face the crash:
- could you please make a few screenshots (create them ideally already while
re-trying) of your disk configuration screens in subiquity (since I esp. want
to figure out if you just manually format and existing partition with ext4 or
if you also "Re-format" the entire disk before, or if other certain configs
were used ...)
- and please share the entire /var/crash and /var/log content
- and please also try to run the steps manually in the subiquity live shell,
like:
  - (in case of restarting the installation:
at the very first subiquity screen (where one can select the language):
  - hit "F2" to reach the installer live shell (or "F1" --> "Enter Shell")
  - lszdev 1234 # find the DASD you are going to use
  - enable your DASD: chzdev -e 0.0.1234
  - lookup the device name: lsdasd
  - create a partition using fdasd: sudo fdasd -a /dev/dasdX
  - create an ext4 fs: mkfs.ext4 /dev/dasda
  - (and also quickly note the version: mkfs.ext4 -V )

That would be very helpful for us!
