I opened a question, and the answer I got was that this behaviour may be difficult to change. However, it still counts as a bug because of the unintuitive behaviour, so I'm confirming it as such. I'm not sure whether this is a compiz bug or not, but I'm leaving it be for now. Here's the URL of the question thread that I opened: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+question/15173
** Summary changed: - Menus are shared between all virtual desktops + Menus and tooltips are shown on all desktops ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: compiz - The menus such as Applications, Places, and System, as well as tooltips, are shared between all virtual desktops instead of confined to the - current one. This becomes apparent when you configure the desktop as a - transparent cube. Set the non-rotating transparency to, say, 50% and - open a menu or hold your mouse over a menu item -- and watch as the - tooltip/menu appears on all the other visible cube faces as well. + current one. + + Steps to reproduce the problem: + > Enable Compiz on a stock Ubuntu installation + > Use CCSM or configuraiton tool of choice to turn the desktop into a 5-desktop "cube" that is transparent even when not rotating. + > Activate a menu on the active desktop, or scroll the mouse over a widget that has a tooltip in an open program. + + Expected behaviour: + > The tooltip or menu shows up only on the current desktop. + + Actual behaviour: + > The menu shows up many times, giving the illusion that activity is happening on the other desktops. + > Tooltips show up on other desktops, even when the application that those tooltips serve is not shown on those desktops. Thus, the tooltip appears to be floating out of context. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed -- Menus and tooltips are shown on all desktops https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152775 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
