Public bug reported:
Bluetooth audio stutters and drops intermittently when streaming to headphones
using any codec (LDAC, AAC, SBC) with kernel 6.17.0-23. The issue does not
occur with kernel 6.17.0-22. Reverting to the previous kernel resolves the
problem completely.
Device: ASUS VivoBook (exact model TBD)
Chipset: MediaTek MT7921 (combo Wi-Fi + Bluetooth, USB bus)
Affected kernel: 6.17.0-23-generic
Working kernel: 6.17.0-22-generic
Ubuntu base: 24.04 LTS
Distro: Linux Mint
Symptoms:
- Bluetooth audio cuts out every few seconds during playback
- Affects all A2DP codecs (LDAC, AAC, SBC)
- Wi-Fi works correctly on both kernels
- Bluetooth connection remains established during audio drops
- Issue is 100% reproducible on 6.17.0-23, absent on 6.17.0-22
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot kernel 6.17.0-23
2. Connect Bluetooth headphones (tested with Soundcore Space One)
3. Play audio via any application
4. Audio stutters within seconds
Expected behavior:
Bluetooth audio streams without interruption, as it did on kernel 6.17.0-22.
Additional notes:
- dmesg shows the BT adapter (hci0) resetting multiple times during a session
- Wi-Fi adapter uses mt7921e (PCIe), Bluetooth uses btusb (USB)
- Both share the MT7921 combo chip

** Attachment added: "Currently running kernel 6.17.0-22 (reverted due to the
bug), so the attached log may not reflect the working kernel. I can provide
logs from the ...-23 if needed. Recent user of LInux Mint and first time
