Public bug reported:

SUMMARY:
The Synaptics SVP7500 fingerprint reader (USB ID 06cb:0701) is correctly
detected by the kernel/lsusb but is not recognized by fprintd or any
available libfprint TOD driver, resulting in "No devices available".

SYSTEM INFO:
- Hardware: Dell Pro Max 16 Premium MA16250
- OS: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon)
- Kernel: 7.0.0-22-generic
- fprintd version: 1.94.5-4
- libpam-fprintd version: 1.94.5-4

WHAT I EXPECTED:
fprintd-enroll should detect the SVP7500 sensor and allow fingerprint
enrollment.

WHAT HAPPENED INSTEAD:
$ fprintd-list $USER
No devices available

$ fprintd-enroll
Impossible to enroll: GDBus.Error:net.reactivated.Fprint.Error.NoSuchDevice: No
devices available

DEVICE INFO (lsusb -v -d 06cb:0701):
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 06cb:0701 Synaptics, Inc. SVP7500
  bDeviceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class
  bDeviceSubClass 2
  bDeviceProtocol 1
  bcdDevice 85.98
  iProduct SVP7500

STEPS TAKEN:
1. Confirmed PAM is configured for fingerprint auth via pam-auth-update,
   with fprintd/libpam-fprintd installed and active.
2. Tried the python-validity / open-fprintd stack
(ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/open-fprintd) as an alternative driver. The
python3-validity service fails to start with:
     Exception: No matching devices found
indicating 06cb:0701 is not in python-validity's supported device
   list either.
3. Checked dell.archive.canonical.com for a libfprint-2-tod1-synaptics
package. This driver does not appear to be packaged for the
noble/resolute releases at all (similar to the situation reported in
LP #2136962 for a different Synaptics ID, 06cb:009a).

This appears to require a Synaptics TOD driver (libfprint-2-tod1-synaptics)
supporting device ID 06cb:0701, which is not currently available for any
recent Ubuntu release. Filing this so the device ID is on record in case
Dell/Synaptics/Canonical push an updated TOD driver package, or so it can
be linked to similar reports (e.g. LP #2136962).
