Public bug reported:
Expected:
When I choose Suspend from GNOME or trigger systemctl suspend, the desktop
should enter suspend-to-RAM and resume back into my existing GNOME session with
my windows still open.
Actual:
The system enters S3 sleep and then resumes, but GNOME Shell crashes
immediately after resume. I am returned to a fresh login/session and all open
desktop state is gone. The machine did not fully reboot; the current boot
remained active, but my graphical session was closed.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot Ubuntu 26.04 LTS on this system.
2. Log into the GNOME desktop.
3. Attempt to suspend from the GNOME power menu or with systemctl suspend.
4. Wake/resume the machine.
5. Observe that GNOME Shell/session has crashed and the user is returned to a
fresh login/session.
System:
- Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
- Kernel 7.0.0-22-generic
- ASUS PRIME Z390-A desktop motherboard, BIOS 2101 dated 2024-01-11

- gdm-password shows my session closed at 09:47:58 and a new session opened at
09:48:57.
- Kernel logs also show repeated NVRM: VM: invalid mmap context at 09:47:57.
