Public bug reported:

I ran:
 sudo apt-get build-dep darktable

after a git-clone with submodules, the build.sh failed with the following error:

CMake Error at
/usr/share/cmake-4.2/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:290 (message):
Could NOT find Potrace (missing: POTRACE_LIBRARY POTRACE_INCLUDE_DIR)
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/share/cmake-4.2/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:654
(_FPHSA_FAILURE_MESSAGE)
  cmake/modules/FindPotrace.cmake:12 (find_package_handle_standard_args)
src/CMakeLists.txt:325 (find_package)

to make the build complete I had to run
sudo apt-get install libpotrace-dev libpotrace0

wpferguso experienced the same issue also on ubuntu-26.04

As such this seems to be a packaging bug with listed source-code dependencies.

I'm on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS \n \l
on x86_64 architecture.
