I find the url without the trailing dot way less surprising.

I did some tests with host(1), and I didn't see the local search domain
appended to the hostname I queried. Perhaps it happens if the query
fails or times out? But the default for ndots is 1, and systemd-resolved
(current version in resolute) even says that it is ignored, and queried
hostnames with a dot anywhere are always treated as an FQDN and do not
get the search domain appended.

Before accepting, I would like to see some test plan changes:
- use the actual package from proposed, and not a change in the configuration
- also test inside a captive portal. Which one? Well... Perhaps Gianfranco's
one.
- where it says " => observe the NXDOMAIN noise over a couple few minutes",
that is no longer the case since the systemd change ages ago, right? In fact,
for a successfull case, you should NOT see the NXDOMAIN messages, or else the
original bug from the bionic era is back.
