Status update and request for human kernel-team triage — 24 June 2026

This kernel regression remains unresolved and continues to prevent me
from updating this machine normally.

The last confirmed results on this exact machine and Ubuntu installation
remain:

* 6.17.0-19-generic: Intel Wireless-AC 9560 works normally with iwlwifi,
firmware loads, and interface wlo1 is available.
* 6.17.0-20-generic: the PCI wireless device is present, but iwlwifi does not
attach, no wireless interface is created, and Wi-Fi disappears from
NetworkManager and Settings.
* Booting back into 6.17.0-19-generic restores Wi-Fi immediately.

Because of this regression, I still have to keep GRUB pinned to
6.17.0-19-generic and hold the kernel, HWE, NVIDIA, and related
packages. This is preventing a normal Ubuntu update/upgrade cycle and
requires me to use a guarded update script merely to install unrelated
security and application updates.

This report was filed on 4 April 2026 and has remained:

* Status: New
* Importance: Undecided
* Assigned to: Unassigned

There has been no visible human triage response, no request for
additional evidence, no assignment, and no indication that the
regression has been investigated. Six users are currently recorded as
affected.

The report already includes the exact good and bad kernel versions, PCI
hardware identification, iwlwifi behaviour, firmware evidence,
NetworkManager evidence, dmesg output, lspci output, Wi-Fi logs, rfkill
information, udev data, ACPI information, and the original apport
attachments.

Please provide human triage and advise on the following:

1. Does the existing evidence meet the minimum requirement for this
Linux bug to be moved from New to Confirmed?

2. If anything is still missing, please state the exact command, log,
attachment, or test result required.

3. Should I perform a controlled one-time test of either
6.17.0-22-generic or 6.17.0-23-generic, both of which are installed but
have not been accepted as safe working kernels on this machine?

4. If testing an upstream mainline kernel is required before further
triage, please identify the exact kernel version that should be tested
and the evidence that should be collected. I need to preserve
6.17.0-19-generic as the known-good fallback.

5. Has this regression already been reported upstream against iwlwifi or
the Linux kernel? If so, please link this report to the upstream issue.
If not, please advise whether it should now be forwarded upstream.

I am willing to perform a controlled diagnostic test, but I do not want
to replace the known-good GRUB default or jeopardise the machine’s
working Wi-Fi and graphics configuration without an agreed test and
recovery procedure.

Please acknowledge this report and advise the next concrete triage step.
