** Description changed: [ Impact ] Since updating to Ubuntu 26.04 (gnome 50, glycin 2.1.1+ds-0ubuntu1) I'm unable to load any HEIC images, the following is displayed when opening in image viewer: Remote error: org.gnome.glycin.Error.LoadingError: glycin- loaders/glycin-heif/src/main.rs:103:24: DecoderPluginError(Unspecified) Decoder plugin generated an error: Unspecified stderr: Setting process memory limit Thumbnails are also no longer generated. - [ Test Plan for AVIF ] - - 1. Install the glycin-loaders update - 2. Open an AVIF image in Image Viewer - 3. Verify that the image loaded correctly - - [ Test Plan for HEIC ] + [ Test Plan ] 1. Install the ubuntu-restricted-addons update - 2. Open an HEIC image in Image Viewer + 2. Open a HEIC image in Image Viewer 3. Verify that the image loaded correctly [ Where problems could occur ] We are only adding dependencies. There could be component-mismatches issues if done incorrectly. [ Original message ] I originally raised this on the GNOME glycin project, however redirected here as it's a dependency related issue with the package: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glycin/-/work_items/289 Copy pasting the response from there: "I tested a fresh Ubuntu VM and can reproduce this. It looks like libheif-plugin-libde265 or libheif-plugin-ffmpegdec is not installed automatically, so you need one of these packages. You might still want to report to Ubuntu that the dependencies for glycin-loaders seem wrong https://packages.ubuntu.com/resolute/glycin-loaders It looks like the suggested packages are all encoders and the decoders are missing. libheif-plugin-aomdec: HEIF and AVIF file format decoder and encoder That's an AVID encode. The HEIF is confusing here, and isn't aomenc the encoder? libheif-plugin-x265: HEIF and AVIF file format decoder and encoder - x265 plugin Also sounds wrong. Why would x265 have anything to do with AVIF? And it's also just an encoder. It's all explained here https://github.com/strukturag/libheif#supported-features"
