Public bug reported:
Hello,
I am experiencing a persistent audio issue where my HDMI audio via AMD
Ellesmere [Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590] is completely locked
and shown as "Unavailable" (with a red cross icon) in pavucontrol, even
though the monitor has built-in speakers.
Here is the troubleshooting summary of what has been verified and done so far:
1. Graphic Driver Status: Verified with 'lspci -k'. The 'amdgpu' kernel driver
is fully loaded and active. Secure Boot issues have been resolved.
2. Audio Server: PulseAudio has been fully replaced/purged, and PipeWire +
WirePlumber are active and running correctly at user/global scope.
3. ALSA Layer: In alsamixer, the HDA ATI HDMI card is selected, but the S/PDIF
/ IEC958 channels appear muted/off or locked in Pro-Audio mode.
4. Profiles: Running 'pactl list short sinks' shows the card stuck in
'pro-output' profiles (e.g., pro-output-3, pro-output-9). Forcing the profile
to 'hdmi-stereo' via pactl executes successfully but pavucontrol still marks
all HDMI ports as "unavailable".
5. Hardware: Tested with hotplugging the HDMI cable, power-cycling the monitor,
and verified the monitor's OSD settings (internal speakers are enabled and
unmuted).
It seems WirePlumber fails to parse the EDID/handshake correctly for
this monitor on the amdgpu framework, forcing it into an unusable state.

- Motherboard: MSI MS-7C52
