Pardon me, I now believe that this is a duplicate bug to the one which is fixed by adding "objtool=/bin/true". I thought the workaround had failed for me, but after restarting my machine the wifi is now working again. So I believe this can be closed (but it may be helpful for idiots like me, to add to the other bug report that you need to restart your machine after the workaround)
