Public bug reported:

After the automatic kernel update from linux-image-7.0.0-29-generic to
linux-image-7.0.0-30-generic (HWE, Ubuntu
24.04.4) on 2026-08-21, the Bluetooth adapter (MediaTek MT7922 WiFi+BT combo,
USB ID 0489:e0e0, btusb/btmtk driver) never
comes up. bluetoothctl reports “No default controller available” even though
bluetooth.service is active and rfkill shows no blocks.
journalctl -k shows the HCI device being recreated in an infinite loop (hci0,
hci1, hci2, ... hci21+ within minutes), each time failing
firmware setup:
Bluetooth: hciN: Execution of wmt command timed out Bluetooth: hciN: Failed to
send wmt patch dwnld (-110) Bluetooth: hciN:
Failed to set up firmware (-110)
linux-firmware package was NOT updated in this cycle, so this is not a firmware
file issue — it points to a regression in the btusb
btmtk driver in kernel 7.0.0-30.
Workaround: booting linux-image-7.0.0-29-generic restores working Bluetooth
immediately, same hardware, same firmware files.
System: Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS (noble) Affected: linux-image-7.0.0-30-generic
(7.0.0-30.30~24.04.1) Working: linux-image-7.0.0-29
generic (7.0.0-29.29~24.04.2) Hardware: MediaTek MT7922 WiFi/BT combo (lspci:
Network controller MEDIATEK Corp. MT7922;
lsusb: 0489:e0e0 Foxconn/Hon Hai Wireless_Device)
