Public bug reported:

The DPC++ compiler is a LLVM-based compiler project that implements
compiler and runtime support for the SYCL* language.

There is already an existing source package (intel-dpcpp [1]) that ships
version 6.2.0 of the compiler in Ubuntu 26.04 and 26.10; however, Intel
recently released version 7.0.0 of the compiler. For consistency with
other compiler stacks in Ubuntu (e.g. gcc, vanilla LLVM/Clang), this new
source package will introduce a new major version of DPC++ in Ubuntu.
Note this is technically feasible and planned as the intel-dpcpp
packaging for intel-dpcpp in 26.04 and 26.10 includes -6 appended in
binary package names (e.g. dpclang-6) to support co-installation of
multiple major versions. A small fix for supporting unversioned symlinks
is being prepared for 26.10 [3].
