Public bug reported:
Impact: After disconnecting and reconnecting Remmina to an existing session on
an older Windows RDP host, the text caret (I-beam) stops being drawn. Mouse
clicks still move the insertion point; typed characters land in the right
place. A new logon (logoff, not disconnect) restores the caret. Reboot of the
Windows box is not required if you log off.
Regression window:
Works: libfreerdp3-3 3.30.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.2
Broken: 3.31.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1 (installed 2026-08-31 via noble-security)
Remmina stayed at 1.4.43+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.2 the whole time.
Client: Ubuntu 24.04, KDE Plasma, Remmina + remmina-plugin-rdp
Host: long-lived Windows RDP server (Win7-era / Server 2008-class). No host
updates.
Not the cause: screensaver, idle, fullscreen, CMD vs GUI, clipboard, caret
thickness, blink rate, Remmina GFX checkboxes. Only Remmina disconnect +
reconnect to the same session.
Workaround: downgrade/hold FreeRDP libs at 3.30.0.
Please SRU 3.31.1 or a targeted reconnect/GDI-caret fix to noble. Upstream
3.31.1 (2026-09-02) mentions GFX surface/alpha fixes that may be related.
