Andreas: The crashes were identified and resolved upstream in version 50.3.1. I would be inclined to MRE version 5.3.1 anyway, so what do you think of resolving this issue that way? Or would you prefer a targeted patch first? There's also the problem that it's a race condition for which we wouldn't have a reliable reproducer.
