Public bug reported:
After updating from kernel 6.8.0-138-generic to 6.8.0-139-generic,
Bluetooth stopped working on my ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506LHB.
Hardware:
- Laptop: ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506LHB
- Bluetooth/Wi-Fi chipset: MediaTek MT7921
On 6.8.0-139-generic:
- rfkill shows hci0 Bluetooth and it is not soft-blocked or hard-blocked
- bluetooth.service is active/running
- btusb, btmtk and bluetooth kernel modules are loaded
- bluetoothctl list returns no controller
- GNOME Settings cannot enable Bluetooth
Kernel logs show Bluetooth initialization reaching btmtk/mt79xx firmware
setup, including hci_power_on and btmtk_setup_firmware_79xx, but no
usable controller becomes available.
Regression test:
- Booting kernel 6.8.0-139-generic: Bluetooth is broken
- Booting the same Ubuntu installation with 6.8.0-138-generic: Bluetooth works
immediately
- On 6.8.0-138-generic, bluetoothctl list shows:
Controller 2C:3B:70:DE:A9:4C [default]
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot Ubuntu with kernel 6.8.0-139-generic
2. Open Bluetooth settings or run `bluetoothctl list`
3. No Bluetooth controller is available
4. Reboot into 6.8.0-138-generic
5. Bluetooth controller is detected and works normally
Expected result:
Bluetooth controller should initialize and work as it did on 6.8.0-138-generic.
Actual result:
Bluetooth controller fails to become available on 6.8.0-139-generic.
