Greetings Martin-Éric Racine, Documentation of the package perhaps.... mentioning that modifications to the .conf file are overruled by settings in the .ppd file? Not sure.
Mention in documentation what the package developer stated of the order the configurations are prioritized in... > 1st: defaults compiled into CUPS-PDF > 2nd: options from the config file > 3rd: options from the PPD file > 4th: options from the command line Not knowing / realizing made for frustration duration of great length. If I had not inquired directly with the developer, would the issue have ever been resolved by now? We as the Ubuntu community can do better... room for improvement surrounding this defect case.
