Public bug reported:
When using zoom on a 4K screen (with 200% fractional scaling), the mouse
pointer appears too large, and actions—particularly selection—are very
imprecise. For instance, selecting text starting from the last character
results in a selection that begins at the second-to-last character.
This bug seems to have been (at least in some part) fixed in GNOME 50.4.
