Public bug reported:

[Summary]
Since upgrading to linux-image-7.0.0-31-generic (7.0.0-31.31, resolute-updates,
installed 2026-09-07) the laptop hangs completely under sustained load: display
goes black, no keyboard/mouse/SysRq/network response, power-cycle required. 4
hangs between 2026-09-11 and 2026-09-14, each 20-55 min into the workload.
Booting linux-image-7.0.0-30-generic (7.0.0-30.30) with the identical workload:
no hang.

[Hardware]
ASUS Vivobook 16 X1607CA, BIOS X1607CA.308 (2025-05-22)
Intel Meteor Lake, iGPU i915 0000:00:02.0 (device 7d51), 16 CPUs, 30 GiB RAM,
17 GiB swap
GuC 70.53.0, DMC 2.23, HuC 8.5.4 (linux-firmware 20260319.git217ca6e4.1ubuntu,
unchanged since March)

[Steps to reproduce]
1. Boot 7.0.0-31-generic.
2. Run 2 or more parallel heavy build workloads (Gradle JVM builds + Docker
containers, ~4-5 load average on 16 CPUs, memory never above ~50%).
3. Within 20-55 min the system hangs hard.
Same steps on 7.0.0-30-generic: no hang (>1 h, repeated).

[What was checked]
- Not memory pressure: a 2 s sampler shows 14 GiB available and 0 B swap 2 s
before the hang (attached).
- Not a kernel panic: kdump-tools active with crashkernel reserved, no vmcore
written; NMI watchdog enabled, yet the journal simply stops with no
oops/lockup/RCU stall message (attached).
- i915.enable_psr=0 on the command line: no effect.
- No thermal or OOM events in the journal.

[Workaround]
Pin GRUB to 7.0.0-30-generic.

freeze-bug-attachments.tar.gz: full journal of the boot that hung at 2026-09-14
10:21:52, kernel log of the 10:09:51 hang, sampler output from the last seconds.

I can test kernel builds or a bisected series on this machine.
