I am reviewing the SRU MPs linked to this bug (for resolute) and there are some pieces of information about the bug itself that are not clear to me.
First of all, the test case should have instructions to reproduce the bug - what to run, what to verify - and then instructions on how to install the proposed fixes and see that they work - again, what to run, what to verify. Right now the test plan only has the second part. Reading the "steps to reproduce" from the Original Description, I still have some doubts about the SRUs. Summarizing from the individual reviews: For libvirt: I see how the bug happens in libvirt, when testing it with libvirt-daemon and libvirt-daemon-hwe. I am confused because when using the packages from the provided PPA, which include the fix, I get exactly the same behavior, including apt messages and systemctl command output. Of course I may be doing the wrong thing and looking at the wrong direction... But from what the bug states, I can't see the fix. For qemu: I see Christian approved the MPs which is nice, and indicates even more that I am not understanding what is happening. From what I see, some binaries built from the qemu source don't even leave config files behind when uninstalled, and can't be purged - which is the case of qemu-system, for instance. qemu-guest-agent is leaving config behind and can be purged, but then what to look for? the service is loaded and inactive in whatever scenario. For seabios and edk2: I put these as questions in the MPs but reading the bug I see: ``` to prevent this issue from happening in case we SRU an other fix that makes use of a dynamic conffile. ``` I found no binaries in these two packages leaving config files behind, so there isn't even the possibility to purge once the -hwe version is installed. That makes me honestly against the SRU: I think SRUing changes to protect us from future changes in the same packages falls off rule number 1 in https://ubuntu.com/project/docs/SRU/explanation/requirements/ - there is risk involved for no user impact at all.
