Confirmed on Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS with Xfce (not KDE), same mechanism.
Package: appmenu-gtk3-module 0.7.6-2
GTK3: 3.24.33-1ubuntu2.2
GLib: 2.72.4-0ubuntu2.10
Browsers affected: chromium 153.0.8010.47 and 154.0.8037.57 (xtradeb PPA),
google-chrome-stable 154.0.8037.57
The setting that triggers it lives in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini:
[Settings]
gtk-modules=appmenu-gtk-module
Bisection results:
- settings.ini with ONLY "gtk-modules=appmenu-gtk-module" -> exit 139 (SIGSEGV)
- settings.ini with [Settings] empty -> browser starts fine
- every other settings.ini line tested individually -> browser starts fine
- GTK_MODULES= and GTK3_MODULES= environment overrides do NOT prevent
the crash (the module is loaded from the ini file, not the environment)
- --gtk-version=4 (GTK4 frontend) -> unaffected
- headless mode -> unaffected
- Firefox (GTK3, different engine) -> unaffected
Removing that single line fixes the crash in all Chromium-based browsers,
on both 153 and 154, and on google-chrome-stable.
Backtrace (identical shape to the one in the original report):
Thread 1 "chromium" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

The crashing PC sits inside a mapped region with no code (all zero bytes),
consistent with a stale callback being dispatched from the GLib main loop
after the module has been unloaded.
Workaround used: remove the "gtk-modules=appmenu-gtk-module" line from
~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini, or launch the browser with --gtk-version=4.

appmenu-gtk3-module from the terminal pre-fills package versions and
