Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gconf-editor
I am reporting this bug on behalf of several users from the french speaking ubuntu forum who just made clean dapper installs or dist- upgrades. Running apps needing root authentication from the gnome menu ie with gksu (synaptic for example) brings an error message related to gksu-run- helper and su : Authentication failure. users are in adm and admin groups, nothing particular with sources.list, locale, .Xauthority or .ICEauthority files. gconf-editor shows lots of missing entries. gconf-editor --get /apps/gksu/sudo-mode does not pop up the sudo-mode key panel.
