Status Update: The issue appears to be resolved. Hello everyone,
I would like to provide an update on this bug. It seems the latest round of system updates pushed around September 30 (which included new versions of gstreamer1.0, libheif, and other core libraries) have successfully patched the root cause of the issue. To verify the fix, I performed the following steps: Installed all pending system updates via the Discover/APT package manager. Removed the KWIN_DRM_USE_MODIFIERS=0 workaround from my /etc/environment file. Performed a clean reboot to force Wayland to use DRM modifiers again on my older Intel GPU. After testing the automatic screen lock and waking the laptop from sleep/suspend multiple times, the Wayland session remained perfectly stable. The plasmashell infinite crash loop has stopped, and the "screen locker is broken" message no longer appears. I will continue to monitor the system over the next few days and report back if there are any regressions, but for now, the system is fully functional under Wayland. Thank you to the developers and maintainers for the quick updates!
