I performed manual checks on Azure on 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04. 1. install the package from ppa: 22.04 - open-vm-tools_12.3.5-3~ubuntu0.22.04.4~jammyppa2_amd64.deb 24.04 - open-vm-tools_13.0.10-0ubuntu0.24.04.2~nobleppa1_amd64.deb 26.04 - open-vm-tools_13.0.10-1ubuntu1.1~resoluteppa1_amd64.deb 2. Check the package was installed correctly 3. Reboot the VM 4. Check the generator exists in /lib/systemd/system-generators/open-vm-tools-apparmor-generator 5. Check journalctl boot sequence : make sure Starting Cloud-init: Local Stage (pre-network) is started before Apparmor finish (Finished Load AppArmor profiles.) -> so the is no serialization. Also make sure Vmware condition is skipped as expected (Condition check resulted in Service for virtual machines hosted on VMware being skipped.)
To double check, create the image from the VM, start the new VM from the image - same checks performed with same result.
