Same symptom here on Ubuntu 24.04 with NVIDIA 595.91.07 (also seen on 580.173.02 and 595.84). I filed LP #2169660 against xorg-server with a detailed analysis:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/2169660 Short version: with logind at debug log level, it emits ResumeDevice on every single resume (9 signals, 10 out of 10 wakeups), but the X server processes them only on the successful ones - on failures the count is exactly 0, never partial. The D-Bus connection is alive at that moment: Xorg keeps making method calls to logind and handling udev events seconds after the resume. So the problem looks like inbound signal dispatch in hw/xfree86/os-support/linux/systemd-logind.c, not the NVIDIA driver and not logind. Workaround: `systemctl restart gdm` over ssh restores the session without a reboot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2139645 Title: Black screen on resume since NVIDIA 580.126.09 update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-570/+bug/2139645/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
